The Family Place were privileged to be part of the Mogo NAIDOC Big Day Out gathering again this year. Helen, Katie and Lynn got to meet some lovely creative kids and their parents/carers. It was a beautiful day and an excellent turn out. Thank you to the organisers who did a great job and thank you also to Lachie for transporting our gear to and from the venue!

A ‘groundbreaking’ ceremony was held to mark the approval of a development application for the Boomerang Meeting Place ‘Cultural Healing Space’.  Fiona Phillips MP and Eurobodalla Shire Mayor Mat Hatcher attended the ceremony as well as friends of the project including our Deadly Lads men’s group, representatives from Boomerang Meeting place, local elders and folk from Fire to Flourish.

Some of our TFP team attended conferences over a three-day period in Cairns this month – First Nations Strong Women, Boys to Men and Say NO to Family and Domestic Violence Conference. The attendees have returned with lots of relevant and useful information we can apply to our services.

On 22nd September some of The Family Place crew travelled up to Wollongong to attend the 2023 Community Service Awards. We were nominated as finalists in two categories: ‘A Brilliant Idea’ team award for the successful and popular ReGrowth Project (coordinated by the very talented Meaghan) and the ‘Sector Star of the Future’ award.

A big thank you once again to the wonderful folk at the Tuross Head Caring Group for the recently donated gift hamper. We also received a donation from the Commonwealth Bank so thank you to the customers that voted for The Family Place as a worthy recipient. We’d also like to thank Margie, who visits local nursing homes and provides wool for residents so they can knit beanies for people in need.

The Family Place recently purchased a new vehicle for our Outreach Service with the assistance of the NSW Government Community Building Partnership 2022 funding round. This four-wheel drive dual cab will enable our team to reach people in need who may be camped out in isolated locations.

The Family Place were excited to welcome Dr Michael Holland MP Member for Bega to our Ford Street office on 16th March to share some great news. Dr Holland announced that NSW Labor has pledged $284,000 for South Coast Housing Projects.

The Family Place celebrated World Pride by holding an event at Moruya Riverside Park on Tuesday 21st February. The event was held to highlight diversity in our community and provide a welcoming space for everyone to join in, celebrate and learn more about diversity.

We were honoured to welcome our Federal Member for Gilmore, Fiona Phillips, to our Ford Street office last week. We discussed with Fiona the work we carry out in the homelessness and disaster recovery space in the Eurobodalla and Bega Valley regions, and we look forward to an ongoing working relationship.
